Trend and spatio-temporal clustering of fasciolosis in Granma province, Cuba (2012-2018) Tendencia y agrupamientos espacio-temporales de fasciolosis en la provincia Granma, Cuba (2012-2018) Pérez Benet, Frank Montano Valle, Damarys de las Nieves Abreu Jorge, Yandy del Pozo, Jany Alfonso, Pastor One Health surveillance clusters Fasciola hepatica SatScan Una Salud vigilancia conglomerados Fasciola hepatica SatSca The aim of the present study was to evaluate the trend and presence of spatio-temporal clusters of bovine livers condemned by Fasciola hepatica. Data were collected in a slaughterhouse in Granma province, Cuba, during seven consecutive years (2012 - 2018), totaling 2 555 observations. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed using RStudio and the ggplot2 package to visualize the data. A probabilistic SaTScan™ model was applied to assess whether the findings were spatiotemporally distributed homogeneously. The detection of affected livers peaked over 80 cases weekly, while periods of stability ranged 30 to 40 cases. The overall prevalence of affected livers during the study period was 23.34% (Confidence Interval 0.95, 22.88 - 23.80), although there were significant differences between years. On the other hand, there was a high negative correlation (-0.7857) between the number of cattle slaughtered annually and the prevalence of seized livers. The cases of fasciolosis were not spatiotemporally distributed homogeneously and showed high rates (HR) and low rates (LR) clusters of occurrences in some areas. In total, seven clusters were detected, four of HR and three of LR. The study suggested priority zones for specific interventions related to the identification of protective or risk factors for transmission, while supporting the prioritization of resources for evidence-based prevention and control interventions. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la tendencia y la existencia de agrupamientos espacio-temporales de los hallazgos de hígados bovinos afectados por Fasciola hepatica. Se recopilaron 2 555 observaciones a partir de los registros del matadero de la provincia Granma, Cuba, entre 2012 y 2018. Se realizó análisis estadístico descriptivo mediante la aplicación RStudio y el paquete ggplot2 para visualizar los datos, y se aplicó un modelo probabilístico de SaTScan™ para evaluar si los hallazgos se distribuían espaciotemporalmente de forma homogénea. La detección de hígados afectados por Fasciola hepatica mostró picos sobre 80 casos semanales y períodos de estabilidad entre 30 y 40 casos. La prevalencia general de hígados afectados durante el periodo de estudio fue 23,34% (IC 0,95; 22,88 - 23,80) con diferencias significativas entre algunos años. De otra parte, existió correlación negativa alta (-0,7857) entre el número de bovinos faenados anualmente y las prevalencias de hígados afectados. Los casos de fasciolosis no se distribuyeron espaciotemporalmente de manera homogénea y mostraron agrupamientos de altas tasas (AT) y bajas tasas (BT) de ocurrencia en algunas zonas. Se detectaron siete conglomerados, cuatro de AT y tres de BT. El estudio sugirió zonas prioritarias para intervenciones específicas relacionadas con la identificación de factores protectores o de riesgo para transmisión, al tiempo que sustenta la asignación prioritaria de recursos para la prevención y el control basados en evidencias.
